InvisalignA study by the American Association of Orthodontists found that over a third of Americans aren’t happy with the way their smiles look. Dr. June Goodall is a dentist in West Houston TX who treats the cosmetic concerns of her patients. Common problems plaguing her patients include crowding, gaps, protruding teeth, misalignment and more. Patients who have these problems want orthodontic treatment, but don’t exactly want the discomfort associated with standard metal braces. Invisalign has become one of the most popular alternatives for treating poorly positioned teeth.

What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that fixes the positioning of your teeth without the need for clunky metal braces. Instead of adding a bracket to each tooth in the treatment plan, your dentist creates an “invisible” plastic tray that fits over your teeth. It gently repositions the teeth over the treatment period. The dentist uses software to visually plan the progression of your teeth until you have the ideal smile.

How Does Invisalign Work Exactly?
When you begin to wear Invisalign braces on a regular basis, your teeth gradually respond to the shape of each tray. You must visit your West Houston, TX dentist every month to receive the next tray to wear in your treatment series. Once the teeth are in their proper position, the final tray becomes your retainer to wear every night so that you can maintain your new look.

How Long for a Perfect Smile?
While standard braces can take years to take effect, Invisalign works its magic in months. Many treatment plans take anywhere from six to 12 months depending on the amount of movement required to fix the patient’s cosmetic issue. The great thing about invisible braces is that they’re removable, so during the treatment period you can take them off (briefly) for important moments, like business meetings.
